Considerable progress has been made towards repairing the major damage to the swing bridge inflicted by the tidal surge during the early hours of last Friday morning (6th Dec). The County Council  electricians have been working all hours, stripping and cleaning electrical equipment damaged by the seawater. Colas have been refurbishing both the drive gearbox and the pintel bearing, (fulcrum of the bridge), both of which have suffered from an ingress of salt water.

The target is to have the bridge full repaired by next Tuesday (17th) and to resume normal service for vessel movements on the river.

The damage has not affected road traffic on the A259.
