River Ouse closed to all vessels north of North Quay Swinging Basin

>>>IMPORTANT>>>

Notice is hereby given that to assist with the firefighting operations ongoing at Skip-It Containers yard in North Quay Road (Newhaven), East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service have positioned a large semi-submerged pump in the centre of the river with ropes secured across the river to both east and west banks.

The location is adjacent to the Veolia Incinerator site, just north of the North Quay Swinging basin.

This has made the river un-navigable by all vessels regardless of size intending to navigate upstream to Lewes or downstream from Lewes to Newhaven.

At high water today (1200hrs GMT), two unlit yellow buoys will be deployed in the location to indicate the danger.

All boatyards/slipways are requested to relay this information to any of their customers who may be considering using the river. Navigation within the swinging basin and south towards the Port is not affected.

Masters and others in charge of craft are warned to navigate with caution and pay strict attention to instructions issued to them by Newhaven Port Control. Call sign "Newhaven Radio" - VHF Channel 12.      Tel. 01273 612926.
